Wheel Works - Staff

Bill

He's the man... or at least that's what we say when he's around. It's his (wheel) world and we are all just keeping the wheels on the bus. An all around nice guy and master bike guy. He's an old hat at riding those skinny tired road things, but has recently found the joy of dirt. He's kind of a jack of all trades guy in the shop. He can talk compression ratios on 1977 Vespas or how the bear grass blooms are looking on the high mountain rides. His only weakness (that he'll allow us to share): multi-tasking, and/or rhyming or dancing or ...

Favorite fruit: Kumquat

Chuck

All around bike guru. If it has pedal power Chuck knows how to fix it. Forget master mechanic, he's kind of like Yoda but tall and makes less sense from time to time. He's been in the biz since Moses got his first blister. He can make (and brake...) frames and is one heck of a nice guy. Just don't ask him to run a computer or make a pot of coffee. He's more of a "hot brown water" versus "coffee flavored coffee" kind of guy.

Favorite color: plaid

Kevin

This guy wears a lot of hats. He's an all around BMX whiz, one heck of a good scooter mechanic and knows a couple of things about baking pies. He's still confused about politics and exactly which impressionist artist defined the genre but he's coming around, slowly. Kevin has good taste in coffee, beer and music. We forgive him for being from Texas and finding quaint anecdotes to relate everyday things to how things are in TX... every day.

Favorite board game: CandyLand

Keith

What Chuck is to bike maintenance this guy is to music. Keith could make a killing on "Name That Tune." He's more fond of smooth rural roads than rocky/rooted single track descents, but we are working on it... he'll come around. Keith keeps the inventory flowing and customers happy. If you have a question regarding which bar tape has the best grip, which pedal provides a great platform or whether Supertramp was influenced more by Elvis Costello or the Beetles then Keith is your man.

Favorite 70's icon: Farrah Fawcett

Gary

If Bill is the jack of all trades then Gary is the yin to his yang. Gary is an old skool mountain biker from the days before we knew we had to have 5 inches of travel and disc brakes to have fun. He fancies himself a bit of a McGuyver. Gary usually comes in a couple hours per day to nap and groom himself, we would give him a hard time about it but then that's what Mountain Lions do. Gary usually gets the short end of the straw when it comes time to hand out the day's list of to-do's.

Favorite quote: Looks like someone has a case of the Mondays.

Brock

He's the resident parts tester (read: never met a part he couldn't break) and mountain bike local. He is a proud member of the Disciples of Dirt and a founding member of Chocolate Chip Cookie Eaters Anonymous. These days he can, almost, always be found in the shop, on his tractor or (creatively) swearing that there's one more climb between him and some sweet downhill single track. He's not too fond of tires narrower than 2.35 and has a natural distrust of anyone not proud of their scars or who has never required stitches or hospitalization after a "great" day on the bike.

Favorite flavor of Kool-Aid: purple

David

Chuck's third favorite son. He's somewhat of a local celebrity in the "hip college" roadie scene, but will likely never reach the full zenith of his popularity until he embraces the fixie movement on campus. David is an eager student of life and bicycle mechanic skills... he still needs to learn what a third hand tool is used for though. David shares his father's sense of order and frankly that scares us all more than a little.

Favorite Dixie Chick: the pretty one.
